I usually post a Christmas themed page this time of year before taking a couple weeks off before resuming the comic after the New Year has begun. Unfortunately, updates may be a bit sporadic for a few weeks or, perhaps, a few months.

On Monday, my wife was diagnosed with breast cancer. Last week, Kathy had a biopsy which turned out to be positive. She is scheduled to be seen by a oncology specialist next Tuesday. At that time we will find out what the next step will be. The biopsy has shown Kathy has DCIS, or Ductal Carcinoma In Situ. The one upside to her diagnosis is this sort of cancer has a very high cure rate, and the tumor was found at an early state. For that, I am very thankful. Regardless, cancer treatment can be physically taxing, so I know there will be some difficult times ahead.

Please be patient with me in this trying time. Kathy is a strong-willed lady, and she has an incrediblly positive attitude. I am a very lucky guy to have her in my life.

Thank you for your readership, and I look forward to getting back to a regular update schedule.

Sorry to hear of this. It is important to have the loving support I’m sure you will give. I enjoy your comic very much. I honestly wish there were more frequent updates. However, my better nature wants you to take care of yourself and your loved ones. Please do that.

Curtis – Thank you for your kind and supportive words. I’m going to pass them along to my wife. Bless you and those you care about. Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

My best wishes to you and your wife. Thank you for your fine comic all these years.

SwimR – I’m glad you have enjoyed Danielle Dark. I fully intend to resume regular updates as soon as possible. They may be just filler pages, and I have already received an offer from the creator of Blood Bound (http://www.theduckwebcomics.com/Blood_Bound/). If you aren’t familiar with it, check it out.

Thank you for your supportive words. They mean a lot.

Sorry to hear you and your loved one has to endure this. If I may be so bold, my wife is also fighting Leukemia, and she has taught me Sooooo much about how ‘attitude’ can make you powerful against any odds.
Live, love, and laugh…. I now understand her amazing spirit can hold anything at bey! She has chosen not to let it (or anyone) drag her down. Be strong and supportive, but as I said, love and laughter are shockingly powerful and it took me time to let go of my own inner fears and follow her example. It really works…
Best to you and yours…. V (BTW, Blood Bound is one of my favorites!)

Vince – It sounds like you have a wonderful wife. Your personal experience helps give me the resolve. It is easy to forget others have their own battles when you are faced with your own. Thank you for your caring words. I will keep you and your wife in my thoughts. If I may be so bold, give your wife a hug for me. I’ve learned that things like this prove we are all just people – more alike than different. We all have friends we’ve never known.

Yikes! My mom is a survivor. As much as I HATE to say this–give her all she needs. We are NOT important to you like she is.

To Lurker 314 and everyone else out there – Kathy had surgery on Wednesday, January 3, and she came through with flying colors. The tumor was removed along with a little surrounding tissue. The surgeon said the lymph nodes looked healthy but she was sending them for pathology tests to be on the safe side. Once the pathology report is back, they will decide what the best treatment will be. While I am happy with the outcome of the surgery, Kathy still has a bumpy road ahead of her. Rest assured, I’ll be there every step of the way. Thanks to everybody for your words of support. Kathy and I appreciated it a lot.

Glad to hear Kathy is resting well. I wish her a speedy recovery!
I think you will be pleased so see just how far modern medicine has come with the treatment of so many cancers.
Keep your stress levels down, your happy thoughts up, and a big smile on your face for her!
She’ll be home in no time!
