Dani offered Evan a choice. She didn’t actually have to, but she did offer.
If I was in Evan’s position, I’d have taken the offer in a heartbeat.
As for mind control, I’m fairly certain that witches like Maude and Talia have spells and potions that would easily turn anyone into a devoted slave.
