Happy Friday, everybody.  I want to start by saying thank you to everyone who expressed concern for my mom. I’m happy to say she is back home from the hospital, and seems to be doing well. It was kind of scary for a while. She had a bowel blockage, and her heart condition ruled out most of the possible treatments. The major concern was a bowl rupture if the blockage could not be cleared.

Finally, things began moving in the preferred direction, and the doctors performed a colonoscopy to find the problem. That procedure showed my mom’s colon was spotless, which was very good news. The only thing found was a narrowing of the point where the small intestine entered the colon. A targeted MRI on that area found no abnormalities, but that raised another question. What was the cause of the blockage.

The next step is for my mom to have some more tests. All that aside, I am relieved she is feeling much better, and is home. It has been a stressful couple of weeks for the whole family.

Now, for a weird side note.  My dad died just over then years ago. My sister, who spent many hours with us at the hospital, still has a voicemail message in her cellphone from my dad.  While we were in my mom’s hospital room waiting for mom to be brought back from the MRI, my sister’s cell phone buzzed with missed call. It was the voicemail from our dad. I don’t know what to make of that, but it does freak me out a little.
