Perhaps she’ll just tell him the whole truth. Detective Nichols is smart enough to do the Calculus. Being a vampire is not a crime; It was self defense; Nobody is asking him to investigate – he just happens to be a competent and thorough detective; Who the hell is going to believe him? And finally, having a friendly connection to a part of the community he might otherwise be estranged from is always useful for a detective.
He already saw her disappear on camera, so he knows that she is not a normal human being.
If he is half as good as he seem to be, he probably has suspicions, and he want to get the truth.
I can guess the answer might be ‘this is above your paygrade, go home’
