Hey, everybody. I thought I’d give you a peek at what I’ve been doing the past week. Danielle Dark is going to be having a flashback to war-torn France in 1943. This is the story of how Danielle first met Talia Hoover. Since it is an event from the past, I thought I’d depart from the Adobe Illustrator method and go “old school” for a different look and feel. Tell me what you think.
Have a great week end, and thanks for reading.
If this is an example of your drawing skills, you should be doing more of it. That looks wonderful!
sound be great
Jay, I’m interested in how decisions are made–like the position of Danielle’s left hand from the rough sketch to the final pencil. Either one serves the purpose, so why did you decide to change it?
Great idea to go old school. Do you enjoy it more than AI?
The position of Danielle’s right hand and arm was changed in the finished pencil drawing to echo her line of sight. I wanted Danielle to look somewhat aloof, and also lead the readers eyes to the following panel, which will be in the bottom left corner of the final page.
Pen and ink has a lot more life than and Adobe Illustrator drawing. If you spend enough time, you can make an AI drawing look quite a bit like an ink drawing, but it always seems to lack that “human touch” one can achieve with pen and ink.
